Veterans Programs At VisArts

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond (VisArts) will partner with Richmond VA Medical Center to offer the Veterans at VisArts project. The project serves over 525 veterans and active military personnel at various stages of rehabilitation annually from the Richmond VA Medical Center. Launched in 2015, Veterans at VisArts is an arts and wellbeing program for both military members and veterans who have reintegrated into civilian life and military veterans undergoing rehabilitation or medical care. During the grant period, participants will take part in multi-week arts classes in an array of media, including memoir writing, woodworking, stained glass, and fibers. Veterans at VisArts will address the need many veterans have to safely socialize and strengthen or maintain dexterity. The act of making and creating also boosts cognition, memory, and flexible thinking.
